Foreign Ministry Spokesman Kong Quan's Statement on the Assassination of Sri Lankan Foreign Minister

Q: On the night of August 12, Sri Lankan Foreign Minister    was assassinated. What comment does China have?

A: The Chinese Government feels shocked by and deeply sorrowful for the unfortunate murder of Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar and expresses its grave condolences and sincere solicitudes for the family of the victim. State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan and Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing have respectively sent telegraphs of condolences to Sri Lankan Prime Minister Rajapakse and Deputy Foreign Minister Warnapala.

The Chinese Government strongly condemns the terrorist act. We will as always support the effort of the Sri Lankan Government to achieve national reconciliation, restore economic development and maintain state sovereignty and territorial integrity.
