Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Liu Jianchao's Comment on the Tokyo High Court Rejecting the Lawsuit of a Chinese Laborer in World War II
2005-06-24

Q: On June 23rd, the Tokyo High Court ruled over the lawsuit by Liu Lianren, a Chinese laborer and victim in World War II, in the second trial and refuted the first trial verdict by a Tokyo Local Court demanding that the Japanese Government should pay 20 million Japanese Yen to Liu as compensation. What comment does the Chinese side have?

A: Forcibly recruiting laborers and enslaving them is one of the serious crimes the Japanese militarists committed against the Chinese people during the World War II. The Japanese Government should shoulder their due responsibility with an attitude responsible to history, and take the issue with all seriousness and handle it properly.
