Q: Recently, political turbulence was reported in Kyrgyzstan. What measures have the Chinese Government taken to protect the Chinese citizens and agencies in Kyrgyzstan?

A: Recently political turbulence has been witnessed in Kyrgyzstan. The Chinese Government is paying high attention and following closely the personal security and property safety of Chinese citizens and institutions in Kyrgyzstan. To date, the Chinese Foreign Ministry and Embassy in Kyrgyzstan have launched the emergency response system and taken the following measures:

First, the Chinese Embassy in Kyrgyzstan has opened an emergency telephone (00996-312-610858) line and made public the telephone number at the website of Chinese Foreign Ministry. At the same time, the Chinese Foreign Ministry issued a statement at its website, urging Chinese citizens to be cautious and refrain from going to Kyrgyzstan unless for essential reasons. It also reminded the Chinese citizens already in Kyrgyzstan to be more cautious, take protective measures and contact the Chinese Embassy in Kyrgyzstan in time when facing difficulties.

Second, staying in contact with the Foreign Ministry and other Ministries of Kyrgyzstan, the Chinese Embassy in Kyrgyzstan demands the Kyrgyzstan side to take effective measures to protect the personal and property safety of Chinese citizens and institutions in Kyrgyzstan.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry and Embassy in Kyrgyzstan will closely follow the security situation of Chinese citizens and institutions in Kyrgyzstan and render timely and necessary assistance to them.
