Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Kong Quan's Comment on Japan's "Contingency"Military Defense Guideline for Southeast Islands
2005-01-19

Q: It is reported that Japan's Defense Agency has formulated a "contingency"military defense guideline for Southeast Islands in which Diaoyu Island was included, so as to obstruct a possible sea attack. What comment do you have on this?

A: Diaoyu Island and its affiliated islands are China's own territory since the ancient times. Japan has different opinion over it. The Chinese side always holds that China and Japan should solve relevant disputes through negotiations and consultations rather than take any unilateral actions.
