Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Kong Quan's Remarks on the Behavior of Some Soccer Fans at the Asian Cup Final
2004-08-09

Q: It is reported that at the Asian Cup final on August 7th, booing was heard when the Japanese national anthem was played. And the Minister of Japan's Embassy in China was besieged by some Chinese soccer fans when trying to leave by car after the match. What comment does China have on this?

A: China has made tremendous efforts to ensure a smooth and successful Asian Cup, which is there for everyone to see. The overreaction of some individuals is not what we wish to see.
