|China and Angola Issue Joint Communique (Full Text)|
On June 21, 2006, during Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao's official visit to Angola, the Chinese government and the Angolan government issued a joint communique. Following is the full text:
The Joint Communique between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Republic of Angola
I. At the invitation of President & Head of Government of the Republic of Angola Jose Eduardo dos Santos, Premier Wen Jiabao of the State Council of the People's Republic of China paid an official visit to the Republic of Angola from 20 to 21 June 2006. This visit is aimed to strengthen sound friendship, unity and cooperative relations between the two countries.
II. The leaders of the two countries co-chaired the official talks. At their talks, both sides expressed satisfaction with the good cooperation between the two countries in the political, economic and diplomatic fields, reiterating their countries' readiness to strengthen cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
III. The two sides signed a number of agreements and legal documents on bilateral cooperation in the economic, technological, judicial, health and agricultural fields. They indicated that it is imperative for the two countries to strengthen consultations on major international and regional issues in order to safeguard common interests and promote peace, stability and development. Under an agreement, the Republic of Angola will set up a consulate general in the Macao Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China.
IV. Both sides briefed on their respective domestic circumstances and exchanged views on the overall international situation and relevant issues. Premier Wen Jiabao congratulated the Angolan government for realizing peace and making efforts for national reconstruction and reconciliation. On behalf of the Angolan government and people, President Jose Eduardo dos Santos thanked the Chinese government and people for offering various forms of assistance for Angola's reconstruction.
V. The Angolan government reiterated its adherence to the one-China policy, recognizing that the government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legitimate government representing the whole of China. The Angolan government holds that Taiwan is an inalienable part of Chinese territory, reaffirming its firm support for the Chinese government's efforts for national reunification.
VI. The two sides spoke highly of the positive role of the China-Africa Cooperation Forum in boosting the relations between China and African countries, and hoped that bilateral cooperation within the framework of the China and Portuguese-speaking Countries Economic Cooperation Forum (Macao) would be deepened.
VII. Premier Wen Jiabao conveyed an invitation from Chinese President Hu Jintao to President Jose Eduardo dos Santos to attend the China-Africa Cooperation Forum summit to be held in China in November and President Jose Eduardo dos Santos accepted the invitation with pleasure.
VIII. During his visit, Wen Jiabao also met with his Angolan counterpart Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos and they exchanged views on issues related to bilateral cooperation. The Chinese Premier also visited the Luanda General Hospital, a social welfare project funded by China.
IX. Premier Wen Jiabao thanked for the Angolan government's warm reception and gracious hospitality for himself and his delegation during his official visit to Angola.
