Hu Jintao Meets with Raul Castro Ruz

On the afternoon of April 18, 2005, State President Hu Jintao met at the Great Hall of the People with Raul Castro, Second Secretary of the Central Committee of Cuban Communist Party, also First Vice-President of the Council of State and First Vice-President of the Council of Ministers. The host and the guest held cordial and friendly talks.

Hu Jintao pleasantly recalled his successful visit to Cuba last November, positively commenting on the achievements gained in building the socialist cause by the Cuban Communist Party, the Cuban government and people. Hu Jintao said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations 45 years ago, the bilateral ties have withstood the tests of time and history. Entering the new century, both sides will proceed from the strategic height of inheriting the traditional friendship and striving to create a new phase of friendly cooperation between the two countries so as to continuously enrich and expand the content of bilateral relations and drive bilateral relations forward.

Hu Jintao expressed that both parties stick to the leadership of the Communist Party and the socialist direction and make efforts to explore the development path according to the reality of their own country. Further strengthening and developing the relations between the two parties and both countries and learning from each other are conducive not only to each party's building and each country's construction, but also to the lofty cause of promoting the peace and development of mankind. The Party and government of China value the traditional friendship with Cuba. Hu believed that with the active efforts and common promotion by both sides, China-Cuba friendly and cooperative relations would continuously be boosted continuously.

Raul Castro said that he is glad to see General Secretary Hu Jintao again in Beijing within a short period of time. He conveyed the cordial greetings and good wishes of Cuban leader Fidel Castro to Hu Jintao. He said that the Party and government of Cuba sing high praise for the contribution by the top leaderships of both countries to push forward the development of bilaterally friendly and cooperative relations and are willing to make joint efforts with the Chinese party and government to continuously strengthen the friendly communication and cooperation in various fields and drive the friendly and cooperative relations to a new level.

Raul Castro also expressed thanks to the Chinese people on behalf of the Party and government of Cuba for offering invaluable supports and aids to the Cuban people over the years.

Wang Gang, the alternate member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Secretary of Working Committee of the Organs Under the CPC Central Committee and Director of General Office of the CPC Central Committee, Wang Jiarui, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee and other officials were present during the meeting.
