Premier Wen Jiabao Meets with Chief Minister of Karnataka State of India Dharam Singh

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao of the State Council who had just arrived in Karnataka State met with Chief Minister of Karnataka Dharam Singh and other leaders of the local government in the hotel where he stayed on the evening of April 9.

Wen said he is visiting India to promote the continuous development of China-India relations in the spirit of increasing mutual understanding, deepening friendship, expanding cooperation and outlining the future. He said the exchanges and cooperation between Bangalore in Karnataka State, known as "the city of knowledge" and "the garden city", with China has been boosted in recent years. Some software companies in Bangalore have set up branches in China while some Chinese enterprises also started business in Bangalore. He expressed the hope that Bangalore would take its own advantages to enhance cooperative relations with more Chinese cities so as to achieve common development.

Singh said India and China are mutually complementary in economy, and Karnataka State would like to enhance cooperation with China in information technology and life science and explore new cooperation areas such as agriculture and mining.

Wen also met with staff of the Consulate-General of China in Bombay and representatives from the Chinese-funded institutions and overseas Chinese there. He encouraged them to be committed to enhancing the understanding and friendship between the Chinese and the Indian people and to promoting bilateral friendly cooperation.
